What is NGES?

NGES stands for Not Good Enough Stuff. It is the collection of messages people absorb from family, school, relationships, culture, and life experiences. Over time, these messages can become so familiar that we mistake them for who we are.

  • My needs don’t matter.
  • I have to earn love.
  • I have to be perfect.
  • I’m too emotional.
  • I’m too sensitive.
  • I’m too needy.
  • My feelings are a burden.
  • If people really knew me, they’d leave.
  • I have to hide who I am.
  • I’ll always be rejected.
  • I’m impossible to love.

These messages are learned.

They may have shaped how you survived, protected yourself, or tried to belong, but they are not who you truly are.
